John Garang of Sudan

1. John Garang was the founder of the Sudanese People Liberation Movement and Sudanese People Liberation Army. On July 9,2005 John and SPLA fought the government to a stand still and peace negotiations that were under way and resulted in John being placed as Vice President of Sudan. So he fought for his people and he was a supreme leader.

2.They Dinka are related people living in Sudan along both sides of the White Nile. They are one of the 3 groups that graually developed from the original settlers. The Dinka defended their area against the Ottoman Turks. They are the largest ethnic group in southern Sudan.

3.The SPLM/A stands for Sudanese People Liberation Movement and Army. Since 1983, the SPLA has been divided into 3 main factions: the SPLA Torit faction led by John Garang; the SPLA Bahr-al-Ghazal faction led by Carabino Kuany Bol; and the South Sudan Independence Movement led by Rick Machar. By 1986 the SPLA was estimated to have 12,500 adherents organized into twelve battalions.

4.One event that led to the genocide was the displacement of thousands of civilians. On February 26, 2002, the town of Nahibloiu in central Sudan was wiped out to make way for a Chinese oil well that now operates in nearby Leal.Government troops with pro- government militias then swept through the area with rifles and more then twenty tanks.

5. The unity of Pan-Afrikanism and Afrikan would benefit Sudan because more deaths would be prevented number one. Also Afrika’s conflict will be solved with Afrikan unification. Basicly everything will be resovled and many people would be happy and you dont know, maybe they might like each other.

Five Million Dead And Counting

1.The outbreaks that led to this accident was displacement, starvation, rape, murder, and terror. It was caused by the Rebels trying to catch males to force them into their group or they would be killed. So there were many people in the village who were females. Many people are fighting and that is causing food and health to go down.

2. In the last ten years, more than 5 million people have died. That is 50,000 dying in a year. Rwanda, Hutu, and Tutsi were invovled. They were invovled because many people thought that others apologized for Rwanda and not Congo. I could not imagine living in Congo with all this murder and displacement.

3.I think other countries could have brought in food. Another thing they could have done was try to negotiate with the people who did this and they should have wanted to see what they wanted. I think this is what they should have done to stop this. Now many families have to suffer. I think if displacement was not a factor then they would have had less deaths occur to innocent civilians.

Reflection: Advisory Period Work

One positive thing that happened today was I made it pass tryouts. This is the second year in the row. I was one of the few in my class but I know that there are many more in the school. I look to do tremendous and I know that it will be very hard.

Rwanda Assignment

1.The number 1 factor that led to the genocide was the death of Juvenal Habyarimana. He was the Rwanda president and also a Hutu. He was in a plane and it was shot down on April 6 over the Kigali Airport. The person who shot him down was also a Hutu.

2.The time frame of this chaos happened during April and June. Around 800,000 people were killed on 100 days. That is like 8,000 people getting killed in one day. It is crazy because so many innocent people died for something that only a couple people can do.

3.That genocide was Africa`s largest in modern times. Another after effect is families and many that were not killed who probably saw some things have to now live with that for the rest of their lives. Finally the last thing I have to say is I hope that the person who did this feels ashamed of him or herself and learned from this gigantic mistake.
